Wells Program
Provides clean, safe, drinkable water for people in rural villages. Without the wells, people are walking up to 10 km every day to obtain water for their basic needs.Future In Our Hands-USA has funded the building of over 14 wells in villages without a safe water supply. The wells have also saved lives by preventing typhoid, cholera and other water borne diseases. In addition the wells have provided enough water to start tree nurseries. FIOH-K is part of Wangari Mathai's green belt movement.
One new project of FIOH- Kenya is the planting of vegetable gardens around the area of the wells. The ground was too dry for planting before the wells existed. These gardens provide much needed food in villages where most people earn less than a dollar per day.
